FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is an Add-On donation?
Add-on donations help us pay for our projects. Donations help us pay for Grain, Hay, Purchase of our animals, Vet bills, shavings, equipment, panels, and other related expenses to our projects.
Sometimes donations will be made in a flat dollar amount or adding money per pound of weight of our steer at auction.
What animals do we show?
We show steers for market in 4-H. The breeds are usually crossbread so we don't exactly know what breed. We usually just refer them to as Club Cross.
We also show Black Angus heifers and the calves that they give birth to.
When are Add-On donations due?
Add-on money is given to an exhibitor(s) in addition to the sale amount of his/her market animal. Anyone may “add-on” to a specific exhibitor or group of exhibitors. An add-on form must be completed and turned in, no later than the close of the auction on Saturday.
In order to contribute, forms must be delivered in one of the following ways:
Mailing address: Deschutes Co 4-H/FFA Youth Livestock Auction c/o Deschutes Co Extension 3800 SW Airport Way, Building 4 Redmond, OR 97756
How long do we take care of our animals?
We normally get the steers in October and take care of them until the end of July when we sell them at auction.
The heifers are taken care of year-round. If we buy a heifer it is usually in the Fall, but we take care of them year-round and breed them. Then we take care of the calves and the cows until we sell them or breed them again.
